Opening reception: Thursday September 11, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The exhibition “Racines Empruntées” (Borrowed Roots) by Lisa Marie Boissonneau explores the complex connections between identity and heritage through a series of paintings inspired by old family photographs. This project, the result of over four years of reflection, poses fundamental questions: who are we, and how does our past shape our future?
Delving into the intergenerational history of her ancestors, the artist weaves an intimate connection between personal and collective memory. Her works reflect family narratives that have influenced her identity while inviting viewers to reflect on their own roots. Through a personal and sensitive approach, Boissonneau also addresses the social and historical issues surrounding adoption, an experience deeply rooted in her life.
Her paintings, infused with storytelling and visual archives, offer an emotional and historical journey that bridges the past and present, questioning notions of belonging and legacy.
Originally from Moncton, Lisa Marie Boissonneau now lives and works in Mauricie. With a background in visual arts and a diverse artistic career, she has participated in international competitions and exhibited in galleries across Canada. Her art, rooted in a profound identity quest, resonates with universal themes while celebrating the richness of personal and family stories.
“Racines Empruntées” (Borrowed Roots) invites us to revisit our origins and discover the narratives that shape our lives.
