Edmundston launches a call for submissions for a major public art project

Edmundston, February 6th, 2025 – The City of Edmundston’s Arts and Culture Department is announcing the launch of a call for submissions to create an original work of public art, to be installed outdoors beside the City Hall, at 7 Canada Road. This project is part of an initiative to enrich the city’s cultural environment and promote art in the public space.

The main sources of inspiration for the creation of this work, which will guide the artists’ approach, include the legacy of Albert F. Deveau (1946-2022), the sculptures of the six founding nations, and the very essence of the Edmundston-Madawaska region, at the crossroads of forests and borders, and a vibrant cultural and artistic incubator.

Professional artists working in the public art field are invited to submit their applications for the artwork’s conception, creation, and installation. The total budget for the work is $80,000. Installation is scheduled for fall 2025.

Located in the heart of downtown, this public artwork will provide a captivating space for members of the Madawaska County community in north-western New Brunswick, as well as for visitors. It will provide an opportunity to explore local culture and discover the region’s unique heritage while contributing to Edmundston’s appeal.

‘This project reflects our commitment to making Edmundston a dynamic city where art and culture play a central role in the lives of all citizens,’ said Edmundston Mayor Éric Marquis. ‘We are proud to support this initiative, which will help strengthen our cultural identity and provide our community with a meaningful gathering place.’

All artists interested can consult the rules and conditions in the attached call for submissions.

Applications must be received by February 27, 2 pm, (AST) 2025.
