YVON GALLANT

FROM : October 17, 2024

TO : December 12, 2024

Opening Reception at 5 p.m.

Location: Centre des arts, 82 Canada Road

The Centre des arts La petite église in Edmundston is proud to present the exhibition “Reflections on Life” by New Brunswick artist Yvon Gallant. This vibrant retrospective of everyday life, seen through the eyes of a celebrated artist, will be on view at the gallery from October 17 to December 12, 2024. The opening reception will take place on Thursday, October 17, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Originally from Moncton, Yvon Gallant is a prominent figure in the Canadian art scene. Born in 1950, he discovered his passion for drawing and painting early on. He pursued visual arts studies at the Université de Moncton, where he was among the first graduates of the program. After spending two years in Montreal, immersed in the city’s vibrant artistic energy, Gallant returned to Moncton to continue his work.

For many years, he was based at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre, where he observed scenes from daily life and translated them into works of art using vivid colors and a signature playful perspective. Now in his seventies, Gallant continues to capture life around him.

His latest series, featured in “Reflections on Life,” consists of large-format diptychs—paintings measuring 4 by 8 feet. Through this series, Gallant explores themes drawn from observation, memory, and current events, with intelligence and humor.

With more than a hundred solo and group exhibitions to his name—regionally, nationally, and internationally—Yvon Gallant is a major figure in Acadian art. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Excellence in Visual Arts (New Brunswick, 2011) and the Éloize Award for Visual Artist of the Year (2021).

He has left a lasting mark on the artistic landscape with works such as his “PORTRAITS” series, which features over one hundred Acadian personalities.
